During the Great Patriotic War the battles on the Rzhevsko-Vyazemsky bulge played a key role in the Red Army achieving a radical turning point in the war. During 1942-1943 years during fierce fighting in offensive and defensive operations in Rzhevsky area of Tver region the Soviet troops lost about 400 thousand men killed, missing and taken prisoner. Taking into account the wounded, the total losses were more than 1.1 million people.

Since 2016, the Russian Military Historical Society has been conducting a Memory Watch "Rzhev. Kalinin Front." In September 2018 it was attended by Shestakov A.V., a researcher of the Khabarovsk Regional Museum named after N.I. Grodekov. N.I. Grodekov. In the vicinity of the villages of Kokoshkino, Solomino, Lebzino, Polunino, Belkovo, Yesemovo and Znamenskoe, volunteers raised the remains of 241 soldiers and officers, found 33 commemorative medallions and one name spoon. So far, 12 names have been found.
