"Peace, Friendship, Christmas Tree"

December 20

Grodekovo Museum continues its New Year tradition together with the project "Peace, Friendship, Christmas Tree"! This is a partner inclusive project of Grodekovsky Museum and Khabarovsk public and educational organizations. In December we hold a series of museum classes and workshops, where children with special needs and their friends and relatives help us decorate one of the museum's Christmas trees. For a whole month it becomes part of an exhibit or exhibition.

This project has been in existence since 2020. Then, for the first time, the themed Christmas tree was decorated with outlandish dinosaurs, which the children invented and created as toys themselves. It received a lot of positive feedback. It inspired the museum to continue the experience, and in 2021 the themed tree decorated the exhibition of Soviet postcards "The snow is whirling, flying, flying...". The subjects for the toys are Soviet Christmas illustrations and postcards, familiar to most of our visitors since childhood.

The theme for 2022 is the inhabitants of the forest, the heroes of the museum's New Year's comic strip: the bullfinch Richie Richie, the fox Rufus, and the otters Lou and Plim. Samples of toys were again designed by museum artist Anastasia Tychenko. Under her guidance, the children collected the basis of the toy and then decorated it themselves. Despite the uniform shape, each Christmas tree decoration looks like the author's point of view and individual creative solution, some of the rabbits and foxes even have names. They became the museum's residents for the entire period of the New Year holidays - in mid-January the authors will take the toys home.

"Peace, Friendship, Christmas Tree" is a project that has become a good New Year's tradition, an example of how a museum space provides an opportunity for creative self-expression or inspiration for different people. We will continue to look for ideas for the next Christmas trees at the museum!
