The All-Russian action "Museum Regiment" was launched

February 23.

On February 21, a press conference dedicated to the start of the All-Russian action "Museum Regiment" was held in the TASS press center in St. Petersburg. The event was attended by Yulia Kupina, Director of the Russian Ethnographic Museum, Fedor Boltin, Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee for Culture, Elena Sobashnikova, Director of the Murmansk Regional Museum of Local Lore, Yuri Filippov, Director of the Nizhny Novgorod Museum-Reserve, and Ivan Kryukov, Director of the N.I. Grodekov Khabarovsk Regional Museum.

"The idea was born from a number of ingredients. First of all, it is the knowledge that various museums in our country are developing in different formats the theme of the history of museums during the Patriotic War. Today, the theme of the defense of culture, the defense of the Motherland is relevant. Who is a defender and who is a victor? These are questions that we ask ourselves, that the audience asks us, and today we are trying to answer them by bringing up the pages of our history. We are talking about ethno-cultural traditions of defending the hearth, defending culture, because our current perception of defense is, of course, based on the vast experience of the various peoples of our country. These are very touching moments - when today, thanks to such projects, we can open museums that were closed during the war. We do this together with our public, our researchers and our partners across the country," said Yulia Kupina, Director of the Russian Ethnographic Museum.

Fyodor Boltin noted that in recent years it is more important than ever to preserve the memory of people of various professions who selflessly worked during the Great Patriotic War and the initiatives taken by the Government of St. Petersburg in this regard.

"Of course, we very often and substantially talk about the feat of cultural workers, because St. Petersburg, Leningrad can not forget about what happened in those distant years in our city. A large number of cultural institutions continued to create with a sincere attitude to their work. We should also talk about the great work to recreate museum centers after the end of the Great Patriotic War. But it would not have been possible without the tremendous labor during the most difficult years for our country. I am very glad that the Russian Ethnographic Museum has become a locomotive: we are obliged to honor the memory of the staff who contributed to our victory", - said Fyodor Boltin in his speech.

Yuri Filippov told about the life and work of Nizhny Novgorod museums during the war years, informed about the events to be held in the museums of the city during the festive events dedicated to Victory Day, and also announced the creation of video clips using the rich collection of music of the war years of the Nizhny Novgorod Museum-Reserve, which can be used by the museums participating in the action during its implementation.

Elena Sobashnikova reported that participation in the "Museum Regiment" campaign is extremely relevant and important for the Murmansk Regional Museum of Local Lore. Within its framework the museum will show portraits of employees who went to the front and were engaged in the rescue of collections. In 2024 the museum will celebrate an important date - the 80th anniversary of the defeat of fascist troops in the Polar Region, and everything that will take place within the framework of the "Museum Regiment" will also be timed to this great date.

Ivan Kryukov said that the N.I. Grodekov Khabarovsk Krai Museum is the leading and almost the only social institution in Khabarovsk Krai for the preservation and transmission of historical memory of the Great Patriotic War, and one of the regional scientific centers for the study of the war of 1941-1945. Since 2010 the museum has created more than 30 exhibitions dedicated to the Great Patriotic War: from traveling projects to large exhibitions prepared jointly with the leading regional and federal museums of the country. Dozens of educational and patriotic programs for children and adults have been implemented on the basis of the exposition and exhibitions. Ivan Kryukov separately mentioned the cataloging work. The pool of publications is represented by catalogs of the museum collections (front letters and photos, posters and leaflets of the Great Patriotic War), scientific collections of articles and materials of the conference "Grodekovsky Readings". The museum also organizes special excursions and other events.

Yulia Kupina emphasized that there are no restrictions for participation in the action. Museums can present the fates and portraits of those people who contributed to our victory in different formats - those that are convenient and comfortable for them. Knowing what projects are being implemented in the country's museums is also extremely important - the country's museums need to sound all together in a unified action so that the country feels the importance of culture for its own defense today.
