Carpets from Priamurye presented in Museum rows
The unique traveling project "Carpets of the Priamurye region" opened in the Museum rows of VIEM. Residents and guests of Torzhok can see unique works of amazingly talented craftsmen - about 60 samples of crafts of indigenous peoples of the Khabarovsk Territory.
- This traveling exhibition gathered the best exhibits from the collections of the N.I. Grodekov Khabarovsk Territory Museum and the Far Eastern Art Museum. N. I. Grodekov Khabarovsk Territory Museum and the Far Eastern Art Museum. The project has already visited six cities of our country. Its goal is to show the creativity of small indigenous peoples of the Amur, whose traditions are perceived as mysterious and exotic outside the region. Each of these carpets tells about their ideas about the world, ethical, religious and, of course, aesthetic principles. All kinds of compositions and techniques are represented here: mosaic, weaving, embroidery, applique. And it is very important that this art does not become extinct. Today, most of the masters, who learned the secrets of this craft from their parents, are already of age. We hope that such a large-scale project will draw attention to the need to preserve this ancient craft, will arouse interest in it among creative youth, will raise the status of masters, - commented Galina Titoreva, curator of the exhibition, candidate of art history, head of the research sector of ethnography of the Khabarovsk local history museum named after N. I. Grodekova. N. I. Grodekov.
- It is not the first time VIEM becomes a platform for popularization of unique folk crafts of Russia, this year we have already presented several projects of leading Russian museums in Torzhok. Torzhok is the center of study and preservation of the unique Russian craft - embroidery with gold and silver thread. Therefore, the study and preservation of unique folk crafts, the issues of their integration into the modern world are very close to us. In the course of this exhibition we will realize what cultural parallels unite our regions. We are sincerely grateful to our colleagues from Khabarovsk, it is a great work to bring unique exhibits from ten thousand kilometers away. And we have already agreed to organize a series of events," said Irina Zhukova, Director of VIEM.
Marina Fedotkina, Deputy Head of the Torzhok District, noted that for residents and guests of the Novotorzhsky Region this is a great opportunity to learn the history of the Amur Region and the culture of its peoples, to decipher the secrets of unique craftsmanship. Such large-scale inter-museum projects increase the tourist attractiveness of the region.
The peoples of the North put very important meanings into ornaments. And carpets are indeed magical. Visitors of the exhibition also learned how they sewed clothes from fish skin and how hides were processed. In addition to samples of carpet art, there are also household items, utensils and tools.
The exhibition will run through November 19, 2023.
