Grodekovo Museum and Heilongjiang University agree on cooperation in archaeology

In the framework of the Russian-Chinese Forum on May 19, 2025 an agreement on scientific cooperation was signed between the N.I. Grodekov Khabarovsk Krai Museum and the Institute of History, Culture and Tourism of Heilongjiang University (PRC). The document provides for joint archaeological research in the Priamurye region.


The main areas of cooperation are:
- Conducting joint archaeological expeditions along the Amur riverbed within Khabarovsk Krai (up to Nikolaevsk-on-Amur)
- Exchange of scientific data, including materials from Chinese archives and chronicles
- Involvement of Russian and Chinese university students in research
- Study of the history of Priamurye XV-XVII centuries on the basis of complex analysis of archaeological and written sources
This agreement opens up new perspectives for the study of our region," said Nina Markova, Acting Director General of the Museum. - Joint work with Chinese colleagues, who possess unique archival data, will allow us to take a new look at the history of Priamurye exploration".


On the part of the Chinese partners, the project is supervised by Duan Guangda, head of the Tourism Research Center of Heilongjiang Province, who has experience of successful cooperation with Russian archaeologists.
Next Steps:
The parties will proceed shortly:
- Developing a detailed research plan
- Identification of specific sites and expedition routes
- Formation of international student groups

The Khabarovsk Krai Museum named after N.I. Grodekov has one of the most complete archaeological collections in the Far East. In recent years, the museum has been actively developing international cooperation in the field of scientific research.
