The catalog "Ethnographic Collection of V.K. Arsenyev from the Collection of the Khabarovsk Krai Museum named after N.I. Grodekov. N.I. Grodekov" completes the series of "Arsenyev" catalogs prepared by the museum staff in recent years. The catalog includes 247 museum objects collected by V.K. Arsenyev. These are not only ethnographic collections on the indigenous peoples of the Russian Far East, but also collections representing the culture of Asian countries - Japan, Korea, China and Cambodia.
The ethnographic collection of Far Eastern ethnoses is 143 items. Most of them belonged to the Udegeans - 81 items, 31 Nanai items, 16 Oroch, 2 Evenki, 6 Nivkh, and 7 Chukchi and Koryak.
The Asian collection has 104 items. These include: 28 Korean items, 26 items from China, 30 from Japan, and 20 from Cambodia. These are mostly works of art acquired by V.K. Arsenyev's friends and colleagues on trips to foreign countries.
V. K. Arseniev served as director of the Grodekovsky Museum for 10 years, made many long, complex expeditions to the Far East, during which he made meteorological observations, surveyed the area, drew maps, collected data on fauna, flora, rocks, as well as in the field of ornithology, hydrology and others. An important part of this extensive program was archeological and ethnographic research, which resulted not only in scientific publications, literary works and lectures by V. K. Arsenyev, but also in the field of archeology and ethnography. K. Arsenyev, but also archaeological and ethnographic collections, which are kept today in many Russian and foreign museums.
The largest among V.K. Arsenyev's ethnographic collections in the Khabarovsk Museum is the collection of objects of material and spiritual culture of the Udegeans. Among them is a unique complex of Udegean shaman's protectors, which V.K. Arseniev delivered from the Ulengou - Kusun river. This is the undoubted pride of the Grodekovsky Museum, its "calling card". From the time of its arrival to the museum until today, i.e. more than 110 years, it has been decorating the permanent exposition of the museum.
The ethnographic collection is only part of V. K. Arsenyev's contribution to the formation of the collection of the Khabarovsk Krai Museum named after N. I. Grodekov. N. I. Grodekov. The museum holds his archeological collection - 385 items, natural-scientific collection (herbariums, animal carcasses and geological samples) - 265 items and more than 2000 photo-documentary materials related to the name of this outstanding explorer.
The exhibition project and the publication of the catalog are implemented with the joint support of the Regional Center for Civic Initiatives and the Government of Khabarovsk Krai.
