Exposition "Khabarovsk Process"

The section "Khabarovsk Process" in the exposition "Development of Khabarovsk Krai 1923-1953" began its work in the Grodekovo Museum.

The exhibition section will tell about a little-known page of history - the 1949 trial of Japanese war criminals who conducted criminal experiments on people and prepared bacteriological weapons against the USSR. Tests were conducted in laboratories, at testing ranges and on "expeditions". It was intended to use bacteriological weapons (plague, cholera, typhus and anthrax) against the Red Army. It was Khabarovsk where the facts of medical experiments on people and preparations for the bacteriological war against the USSR were presented. The Khabarovsk trial, in its significance can be put on a par with the military tribunals in Nuremberg and Tokyo. 

It was decided to organize an open trial in Khabarovsk for those involved in these activities, where each defendant was provided with lawyers.

Twelve Japanese servicemen were prosecuted. All of the defendants were found guilty and pleaded guilty themselves. Thus, the Khabarovsk trial demonstrated the inevitability of punishment for crimes against humanity.

The trial was open. The hearings were attended by city residents, and Khabarovsk and Moscow journalists were accredited. Each day of the sessions was covered in the local and central press by journalists and photographers V. Malygin, N. Rogal, Y. Shestakova, V. Pavchinsky and V. Baidalov, etc.
