Exhibition "Porcelain and Time. From the collection of the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia

The exhibition of works of domestic art porcelain of the XX-XXI centuries. "Porcelain and Time" is timed to coincide with two anniversaries celebrated in 2024: the 100th anniversary of the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia and the 280th anniversary of the Imperial Porcelain Factory.

Since its creation, the Museum of Modern Russian History has been closely connected with this famous production facility: among the first items of propaganda porcelain from the late 1910s-1920s, made at the State Porcelain Factory, were among the first to enter the museum's collection. The exhibits of the exhibition - both originals and reproductions - illustrate significant moments and turning points in Russian history through the perception of contemporaries and subsequent interpretations of descendants.

The semantic and compositional center of the exposition are two sections: the bold and bright avant-garde of the late 1910s - early 1930s and the neoclassicism of the 1930s-1950s, which contrasted with it, preserving the actual content with traditional classical forms. It can be said that they form the core of the Soviet porcelain and ceramics collection of the Museum of Modern Russian History. The works on display are genuine masterpieces by first-class artists such as S. V. Chekhonin, M. M. Adamovich, K. S. Malevich, N. Y. Danko, G. S. Stolbova, and V. F. Bogatyryov.

The aesthetics of these periods are constantly addressed - rethinking subjects, forms and stylistics - by the works of the 1960s-2020s, which make up the third section of the exhibition. Here, the chronological principle of construction is replaced by a thematic one, reflecting the events and phenomena that found the greatest resonance in the work of porcelain artists: the Revolution and the Great Patriotic War, everyday life and the new everyday life, industrialization, space exploration, and sports.

A separate theme is the artists' search for new forms: the exhibition shows the latest creative experiments, samples of the author's handwriting and individual interpretations.

The constellation of authors, whose creations represent a whole epoch in the art of domestic porcelain over the past 60 years, shows the diversity of artistic and expressive possibilities of the material. This is exemplified by the creative work of E. M. Krimmer, A. A. Leporskaya, S. B. Velikhova, S. P. Bogdanova, A. N. Semyonova, N. L. Petrova, T. V. Afanasyeva, Y. A. Chistyakova, A. P. Belkin.

The final section of the exposition is devoted to the role of a person involved in the complex process of creating a porcelain product.

The exhibition "Porcelain and Time" is intended to remind us of the tremendous work of those who create works of art in the workshops and workshops, as well as those who later preserve them for history.
