The Grodekovo Museum opens an exhibition on the continuity of Ulch art.

The N.I. Grodekov Khabarovsk Krai Museum invites you to a unique exhibition "Bulava: Heritage and Heirs" dedicated to the arts and crafts of one of the indigenous peoples of the Amur region - the Ulchi. The exhibition will open on August 9, 2025 on the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples and will run until November 30, 2025.

The heart of the exhibition is the national Ulch village of Bulava, located on the Lower Amur River, which has been a place of residence and preservation of the unique culture of this people since ancient times. It is here, on the banks of the great river Manggu (Ulch Amur), where original artistic traditions have been formed and passed down from generation to generation for centuries.

The main principle of the exposition is a visual demonstration of the continuity of Ulch decorative and applied art. In a single space of dialog will meet invaluable items of traditional Ulch culture of the XIX-early XX centuries from the funds of the Grodekovo Museum and modern works of talented Ulch masters and artists who continue and develop ancient traditions in our days.

The exhibit showcases the rich diversity of Ulch art:

Skillful wood carving reflected in utensils, ritual objects and sculptures

Household items woven from birch bark and vine and decorated with carved ornaments

Clothing and accessories made of fish skin, created with the help of unique technology of fish skin processing (most often chum salmon, carp).

Textile carpets of famous Ulch masters that once decorated Ulch homes

And many other things that reveal the depth and beauty of the artistic traditions of Ulch arts and crafts.

The exhibition "Mace: Heritage and Heirs" clearly shows how ancient ornaments, techniques and meanings come to life in the hands of modern masters. This is not just a demonstration of artifacts of the past and present, but a story about the unbroken thread of tradition linking generations of the Ulch people.

A special place in the exposition of the exhibition will be an interactive element. You will have a unique opportunity to take part in weaving a stylized Ulch Ulchi umali belt. This experience will allow you to learn about the symbolism and traditional color scheme of the belts, as well as to touch the living tradition, becoming for a moment part of the process of its preservation.

The exhibition "Mace: Legacy and Heirs" is:

  • Immersion in the culture of the indigenous people of the Amur region.
  • A unique dialog between the past and present of Ulchian art.
  • A demonstration of the power of tradition and the talent of its modern bearers.

We are waiting for you at the opening of the exhibition on August 9 at 14:00 in the Khabarovsk Krai Museum named after N.I. Grodekov!
