Khabarovsk Krai Museum named after N.I. Grodekov invites you to the traveling exhibition "One Victory for All", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory over militaristic Japan and the end of World War II.
The exhibition will tell about the key role of the Soviet Union in the liberation of the peoples of Europe and Asia, as well as about the heroism of the participants of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Kuril landing operations. The exhibition will feature unique materials from the collection of the Victory Museum and Memorial Complex (Sakhalin), photographs, documents and personal stories of veterans.
Historical context
According to the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated September 2, 1945, September 3 was declared a holiday of victory over Japan - a day of nationwide celebration. Since 2023, this date has been celebrated as the Day of the End of World War II.
The defeat of Nazi Germany, in which the Soviet Union played a decisive role, brought the war to a close in the Asia-Pacific theater of operations, where Hitler's last ally, militaristic Japan, remained.
Since the 1920s, Japan pursued an aggressive policy near the borders of the USSR, creating in 1932 the puppet state of Manchukuo in the occupied territories of China. Here was deployed a bridgehead for the realization of the plan "Hachi-Go" - a large-scale offensive against the Soviet Far East and Siberia. Despite the neutrality pact (1941), Japan systematically violated the border, sank Soviet ships and prepared for war.
At the Yalta Conference in 1945, the USSR pledged to go to war with Japan after defeating Germany. On August 8, 1945, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan, and on August 9 began a large-scale offensive that led to the liberation of South Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands and the defeat of the Kwantung Army.
The project is aimed at preserving historical memory, countering falsification of history and patriotic education of youth.
