The exhibition \"Carpets of the Amur Region\" is a part of the exhibition project, the first stage of which was the publication in 2020 of the album-catalogue \"Carpets of the indigenous peoples of the Amur and Sakhalin\" from the collections of the museums of the Russian Far East. The second stage in 2021 will include exhibitions at the Russian Museum of Ethnography (St. Petersburg), the Regional Museum of Local Lore (Irkutsk), and the Khabarovsk Krai Museum named after N.I. Grodekov (Moscow). N.I. Grodekov Museum in Khabarovsk. The final stage of the project in 2022 was the traveling exhibition Priamurye Carpets in Komsomolsk-on-Amur and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The indigenous peoples of Khabarovsk Krai - the Nanai, Ulchi, Nivkhi, Udege, Negidals, Orochi, Evenks, Evenks - have created a unique artistic culture on their land. Carpets are one of its most striking and diverse forms. They are made of various materials - textile, fur, bird skins, fish skin, rovdug, reed rods. Textile carpets were most widely used by the Nanai and Ulchi, fur carpets were used by the northern population of the Even and Evenks. Items made of bird skins and rovduga are more typical of the Negidals. In the past, the Udege people even made carpets from birch bark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibit included about 60 works of carpet art made between 1941 and 2012. They were systematized into two sections: \"Textile carpets\" and \"Furs and leather goods\". The first section included rugs made in the techniques of applique, embroidery, mosaic and weaving from strips of fabric. The group \"Furs and leather goods\" included products made of deer fur and other taiga animals, as well as works made of bird skins and fish skin. The exhibition was supplemented by everyday objects (birch bark tubs, plates woven from willow and birch bark vines, tools for fur and leather dressing, etc.), as well as photographs of Priamursk masters, whose works were presented at the exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
