Day of Solidarity against Terrorism 2023

Sept. 3

Every year on September 3 our country celebrates the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism, 2023 will be no exception.

There are different versions about the time of the emergence of terrorism. Some experts claim that the first terrorist acts were known in antiquity, while others claim that it is a modern phenomenon. The differences arise from the question of whether actions committed in the deep past can be described in modern terms, as well as from difficulties in defining terrorism.

According to the Federal Law of 6 March 2006 N 35-FZ "On Countering Terrorism", the latter should be understood as "an ideology of violence and the practice of influencing decision-making by public authorities, local self-government bodies or international organizations related to the intimidation of the population and (or) other forms of unlawful violent actions".

In the Russian Empire there were several dozen crimes that today can be qualified as terrorist acts. As a rule, we are talking about "revolutionary terrorism," which includes assassinations and attempts on high-ranking state officials by radical activists. In the USSR and modern Russia, a total of several hundred terrorist attacks have occurred, and the motives of the bandits have become much more complex - xenophobia, revenge, aggravation of social problems, etc. are involved. Among all terrorist acts, the Beslan terrorist attack in 2004, unprecedented in its cruelty and inhumanity, stands out.

As part of the "Day of Solidarity against Terrorism" on September 3, the Grodekovo Museum held a lecture-excursion "Terrorism during the Civil War. Red and White".
